Tram in Austria

Caro Claudio, il fatto è che, in termini di euro, un Km su gomma rende molto ma mooolto di più che un km su ferro. E chi se ne frega del popolo pagante!

Last sunday, on Sept. 27th, 2015 was a tram parade on Vienna’s Ringstrasse due to celebrating 150 years of tramway in Vienna.

Today was a exhibition at two depots, the U6 depot at Michelbeuern and at the tram depot Gürtel with some old and newer trams. There was also a shuttle service with museum trams.

There is a LRV line between Vienna and Baden, a small city south of Vienna. It uses LRVs very similar to tramways and the U6 T-type underground. This line became more and more popular over the years.

During the Holy Week and Easter the renewal of the tracks along Opernring, but also Burgring and Gärtner Ring took place in Vienna. Due to that a diversion service was necessary on line 1, 2 and D and a shortened line 71 was in service.

In Vienna line D will be extended through a newly build quarter, which was part of Südbahnhof's Cargo area. Line 6 will get a new terminus near by.

Type D, Flexity, will now run on line 6.

Once the world's smallest tram, Gmunden Tram links the city with the surroundings as regiotram an a successful way. Using old ways in a modern form with modern vehicles makes this to a real success story.

After a fire at Karlsplatz U1 station, underground line 1 was not in service for some days. Due to that line D was routed via Ring-Kai and additional trams were in service running till Börse and (sometimes) only to Quartier Belvedere on the other side. This was the first diversion after the extension. See pic with Ulf line D.

Noto per l'ennesima volta come a Nord delle Alpi, da Austria e Svizzera in su, i tram si siano conservati e modernizzati anche in città di medie e piccole dimenzioni; a differenza che da noi, dove i tram avevano finito per rimanere solo nelle città più grandi: Milano, Torino, Roma e Napoli. Fino al revival di questi ultimi tempi...

🇪🇺🇦🇹Vienna: Schools have their semester break, and the tracks at Matzleinsdorfer Platz, an underground tramway station, have to be renewed. So some lines have to run on different routes and replacement services are established. Find here some pics from the western area, where line 62 is diverted to Burggasse-Stadthalle and line 18 runs from there to Meidling / Dörfelstraße - an area which is not reached normally.
